Ceramiche e altri rinvenimenti dalle cisterne del Castello di Butera: spunti e riflessioni
2011
The archaeological investigations (1998-1999) conducted in the area in front of the medieval castle of Butera (CL) have returned part of the internal courtyard of the building, equipped with a system of wells and siloi for water supply and granary. The stratigraphic relationships between the structures and the analysis of the material found inside the cisterns, as well as highlighting the different building phases during which the extensive collection system for water and grain was built (12th/13th-15th century ), allow us to have interesting indicators relating to the duration of circulation of the various pottery classes identified
Gestione e uso dell’acqua a Solunto: le cisterne
2019
The paper presents the first issues of a new study about cisterns of Solunto, carthaginese city situated in Sicily, and water management of the town during the graeco-roman period. It shows the ways of collecting and managing water, particularly in what concerns raining water. XIXth et XXth century excavations have discovered many hydraulic structures, generally cisterns (70 for the moment with a capacity between 10 and 30 m3) and channels or architectonic elements which have never been studied. We begin with a general presentation and continue with some peculiar structures of the Solunto environment.
La gestione delle acque nelle città fenicio-puniche della Sicilia: riflessioni e prospettive a partire dalle evidenze di Mozia, Solunto e Palermo
2017
The study of the hydraulic preparations of Phoenician-Punic Sicily constitutes a field of investigation alas problematic, especially with regard to the evidence related to the archaic-classical period. Not we know, for example, hydraulic works of a certain engineering commitment comparable to the oldest aqueducts of Tyre known from the sources 2 or the great Greek hydraulic infrastructures of the archaic era 3. The problem of water management in Sicily has, in recent years, received a considerable pulso and concerned especially the evidence of the Greek colonial foundation4 cities. Such "abundance" of data is not yet appreciable for Phoenician foundations, except, as we shall see, of Motya,…
Vasellame in vetro dalle cisterne del castello di Butera
2012
The assemblage of glass artefacts, which is the subject of this contribution, has been retrieved from four cisterns (A, B, C, F) of the Medieval Castle of Butera. They are closed contexts, which were not manipulated by modern interventions, and permit a better defnition of the chronology of the glass objects through their association with ceramic material
